Sossusvlei
It has been raining in Namibia, turning the desert all kinds of nice shades of green. After our previous visit, and the resultant videos blowing up YouTube, we got some people that were interested in going to see it for themselves.
The trip was a wild success, and the first paying customers to Sossusvlei. They were also interested in having a movie from the trip. As this is the first one that I have done for a client, I just charged them for the trip, and will use the video as a demonstration of what is possible. So far this video of the trip to Sossusvlei and the surrounding area has been taking quite some time to make… so this will definitely be the last one that is going so cheaply.
After three solid days of editing, here is the video (20minutes):
The video starts with me breathing heavily as I climb the Big Daddy. There is a small teaser of the surrounding scenery before I start narrating the story with some background images. I keep on having the feeling that the video needs more variety, but this also means quite a few more hours editing. Some constructive criticism might help… I guess I will be watching the Youtube comments to see what’s what.
Just figured out that anyone living in Namibia is ineligible for monetizing their videos. It seems kind of arbitrary, but that also means that I don’t have to worry about using copyrighted music, as the only penalty that is used is that the video is not monetize-able. I wonder if the music owners have the same restrictions? I guess we’ll see that in the future.
Back to happier things, it’s only the start of March, and we have the whole month to hustle. The industry seems to have picked up a little, and it’s almost possible to eke out a living. Just have to hunt down some clients. There ARE tourists in Namibia, they are just quite rare, so marketing needs to be on point. Thing is that it is much better to attract new clients from overseas. We need it, and the whole of Namibia needs it!
Facebook pictures
Talking about marketing, we have been keeping up with the near-daily posting of nice photos to Facebook. The photo with the most views is usually used as the document photo for the blog.
