Film crew in Namibia.
Recently I had the pleasure to be on a film crew again for the first time since 2019. 2020 just got in the way so hard! In any case, this was not my production, and I was only a driver. Still, it’s nice to be able to chat to some of the creative types, and sort of watch what these weird creatures do in the wild.
The production was locally managed by Namib Films, and it is from National Geographic’s One Strange Rock. Young Will Smith made some waves in Namibia as he was an actor in the series. I’m happy to report that he looks just like in the movies in real life. We were told not to bother the talent, and I can see why. Just about everywhere he went people were just piling in and trying to get selfies, etc. Yeah, so I left him alone. 😉
Initially, the part of the film crew I was on would just be on the coast, playing with snakes and lizards. Meeting Swakopmund’s own snake wrangler, Stretch, was an absolute pleasure. He really cares for his animals, and learning about them is quite nice, too.
We then moved the vehicles up to Epupa falls. The water level is still down pretty much, as that area did not get much rains. However, I was able to grab some footage with my trusty S7 and Filmic PRO getting the best from what that little sensor can do.
Here is a short video:
Of course, if you have a lodge or something similar, for very little money I can pop over and make you a great video too.
I also used some old historic footage to make a video of Spitzkoppe. I would so love to get some more modern footage of the place, but at the moment money is a little tight. Any sponsors want to have some great footage, or even a fully edited video, right for sharing on social media? Here is the historic video of spitzkoppe:
Namibian Road trip
So, the video of Sossusvlei was a great success, and I am thinking of making a bit of a sequel. There is a whole bunch of footage of the road trip up. So, I spent a day or so, making the video of the road trip. My computer only has 20Gb or RAM, and maxes out at about six minutes of video. Time for a serious upgrade in that department sometime soon. In the meantime, I will just have to limit myself a little. 🙂
The video has gone up to YouTube recently, and so far the results are positive. I don’t have millions of views yet, but the channel is slowly growing and getting Awesome Chapters homepage more clicks, which is always a good thing.
So, being our own little film crew, we made a behind the scenes of what a film crew faces when traveling:
Next up will be a bit of a video of the Sesriem campsites, as we got some really good footage there.
In conclusion, if you need a film or video for anything, don’t hesitate to contact us, and we can make a deal that will suit us both!
